individuals who are considering giving back to our wonderful community
by serving with the Madison Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance.
As a volunteer fire department we have many diverse needs, a description of some of them are below:
Emergency Roles:
Interior Firefighter
The tip of the spear, an interior firefighter puts on the pack and enters a structure as needed to rescue trapped individuals and control and extinguish fires.
Related classes: Firefighter 1, Firefighter survival, firefighter 2
Exterior Firefighter/Scene Support
Assist exterior operations by placing ladders, pulling hoselines and operating exterior lines as needed. Places exterior equipment such as vent fans and scene lighting. Exterior crews assist interior crews by helping to change air bottles and ensuring needed tools and equipment are nearby and ready to go as needed, as well as helping with rescue operations as needed

Tanker Driver
Not all of our calls occur near a hydrant, and water is essential to any firefighting scene, the tanker delivers this much needed resource.

Engine Driver/Pump operator
The rig can’t get out the door without someone to drive it, and once on scene operate the pump to get water where it’s needed. The Driver/Pump operator is essential to any firefighting operation, ensuring the safe arrival of the engine and operation of the equipment.

EMT (all levels)
A large portion of our emergency calls are EMS related, be they medical emergencies, trauma, or MVA’s, we need personnel willing to give their time to assist their neighbors in their time of need. Inquire today as to what it takes to become an EMT and see if it’s for you. If you want to get an idea of what goes on in an ambulance, consider volunteering your time as a driver
Related Classes: EMT-B, CPR, EMT-I, EMT-CC, EMT-P, many other specialized classes
Other roles:
There are many other specialized emergency roles, such as haz-mat, technical rescue, search and rescue, vehicle extrication, and so on. The fire service does much more than simply putting water on fire; we respond to many emergencies of many different types and need people with varying skill sets to help serve our community.
Non-emergency Roles:
We also need non-emergency members to assist with fundraising, event planning, grant writing and administrative roles. We also need people willing to assist with non-emergency functions on a fire scene, such as bringing and handing out water, Gatorade, coffee, and food to emergency volunteers during extended operations.
While we can always use those individuals willing to devote their time to
train to be firefighters and ambulance personnel, there are many other
functions performed by volunteers that do not require the intensive
training and skill set associated with these positions.
We need
individuals that can participate fund raising events, serve on
committees, write grants, maintain trucks and equipment, drive vehicles,
direct traffic and so on. If you want to learn more contact us today!
All classes, training and gear with the exception of EMT-Paramedic provided free of charge, all that is needed is your time and willingness to help out. Training every Tuesday night at 7 PM, monthly meeting every second Tuesday of each month at 8 PM
